Biennial of Drawing Pilsen was started on the initiative of the Union of Visual Artists of Pilsen Area in 1996. The first Biennial was announced for artists – citizens of the Czech Republic. Since the second Biennial artists from the whole Central Europe have been taking part in it and so the Central European Biennial of Drawing Pilsen was born. The Biennial is to demonstrate the visual arts culture belonging within Central Europe and its liaison with European culture.

The Biennial is held under the auspices of Mr. Pavel Dostál, Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic.
